Jolly Doodles

In my exhilarating epiphany about light and color, I decided that I desperately need to apply what I learned. I found myself going back to basics—finding colors was easy enough to do in oil painting, but on a digital I always froze up. So many colors, right in front of you, all the time! I started using the CMYK sliders, just pretending that I am adding paint. How horrifically simple, and I never realized until today.
Anyway, I wanted to draw something with a “moody” feel so I can play around with colors in light and shade. I wanted a better lighting situation… originally it was going to be a forest, or a figure half in shade and half in light, but all of a sudden my hand decided it wanted to draw something adorable. At first it was FemShep and Thane, but after having an abnormally difficult time with Thane I gave up and turned it into Raff and Petra—Nikki’s and my D&D characters.
I’m actually super proud of this piece just for the sole fact that I managed to somewhat properly color figures against a certain color background, instead of coloring them in a vacuum, so to speak. The little slivers of highlights are what their real colors would be in “daylight.” Like I said, it was really just an excuse to do some colors, so don’t mind things like subpar anatomy and half-assed background. I know about those :P
Expect more color practices from me as I continue my journey to discover LIGHT AND COLOR!

I don’t always get struck by the mood to paint
but when I do

You think the darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was a man, and by then it was nothing but MAINSTREAM!

You see guys, Bane is actually a true hipster. Observe how he talks about the darkness, and how cool he is because he knew it first. He was even raised UNDERGROUND for Bat’s sake omg and look at that jacket, seriously.
Welp here you go then, Hipster Bane

I’m so in love with Gravity Falls right now. I’m happy I got into it after a bunch of episodes played, but now that I’m caught up I gotta wait like normal people!

Would you like this on your wall or desk or car or plane or train? It will be available for sale at Long Beach Comic-Con on November 3 & 4, where I will be selling artstuffs with my buddy Kelly :)

Fight 8 - Giraffes fighting!
Have you seen giraffes fight? Holy crap, it’s so intense. I rather liked how I colored the giraffes (and only the giraffes lololol) but I think I could’ve done better with the posing, could’ve exaggerated it more. I’m learning that even if the SKETCH looks exaggerated, it’ll stiffen up when you color or ink over it! Therefore exaggerate the hell out of the sketch so that it’ll still be somewhat dynamic when you go to finish it off.
